Labelling is one of the most important operations in warehouses and production. Thinking in advance about warehouse floor space, shelf rows, length and height position saves time and money. The plan should take into account known future changes to make the system flexible and allow for changes. Good, clear labelling makes things easier and faster. The address system should be part of the inventory and production control system. As an example of how to design an addressing system, shelf line numbering can be thought on paper to run from end to end of a warehouse even though only some of them are actually used. This allows shelf locations to be added and removed without affecting other address labels. The same applies to mass locations where square metres or areas can be thought of on paper as alphabetically from side to side. In this case, the logic of the label is preserved.

Nowadays, in addition to the indication of the storage area, the length of the shelf and the height, the marking can be made by dividing the storage area into sections (shelf, pallet or plastic box).
