How to use a pump trolley?

Forklifts are one of the most important tools in warehouses and shops. They are affordable, durable and easy to use. They make short journeys of heavy goods and loads easy and safe. A pump truck is a simple tool that anyone can use. Here are four simple steps to using a hand-pumped trolley:

Position the lowering valve lever

Stand behind the pump truck with your hands on the metal handle, facing outwards towards the forks. The forks are two horizontal metal pieces that lift the pallets. Locate the plastic lowering lever on the handle. The lever is usually attached to the center bar and may be a different color to stand out more.

Move to the platform and press the lever

Move the trolley to the desired pallet by pulling or pushing on the trolley handle. Press the lever to lower the metal forks. If the forks are already down, they will not move when you press the lever.

Slide the forks under the pallet

When the forks are fully lowered, you can slide them under the movable platform. If the metal forks are still too high to slide easily under the pallet, press the lever again, as they may not have been lowered all the way. When pushing the metal forks through the underside of the platform, make sure that the wheels rest on the floor and not on any part of the platform.

Lift the platform

With the forks of the pump truck under the pallet, pull the metal handle and the entire centre bar towards you, as if pumping the bar downwards. You should feel resistance and notice how the pallet slowly rises. Manual forklifts have a hydraulic pump that raises the pallet. Repeat the pumping motion several times until the metal forks are high enough to not drag on the floor. Once the pallet is off the floor and the weight has transferred to the cart, you can transport the pallet to your desired location by pulling the cart behind you by the handle. Once the pallet has been moved to the desired location, it is safe to lower it to floor level by pressing the lever.
